- POISONING
-
-
- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- What to look for:
-
- Name of the poison, and how much has been swallowed.
-
- When the poison was swallowed.
-
- Whether or not the victim has vomited.
-
- Immediate Treatment:
-
- 1. Check and maintain an open airway, and if necessary, restore breathing
- and circulation.
-
- 2. Call a Poison Control Center for instructions, and be prepared to give
- specific information on the situation.
-
- 3. Emergency treatment consists of: diluting the poison with at 8 ounces
- of water or milk, and getting the poison out of the victim by inducing
- vomiting.
-
- 4. Keep the victim face down with the head lower than the rest of the body
- so he will not choke.
-
- Do NOT induce vomiting if the victim has swallowed a strong acid, an alkali,
- a petroleum product, or you do not know what the victim has swallowed. Give
- water, not milk with any of these products.
-
- Never give liquids or induce vomiting if the victim is unconscious or having
- convulsions. Seek medical attention immediately.
